What fish can you catch in Jacó?+

Jacó offers year-round opportunities for marlin, sailfish, yellowfin tuna, mahi-mahi, wahoo, roosterfish, cubera snapper, jacks and mackerel. Exact opportunities vary by season and trip style.

When is the best time to fish Jacó?+

December through April is the main sailfish season. May through September is strong for blue marlin and tuna, while October and November often bring excellent mahi-mahi fishing.

How far offshore are the fishing grounds from Jacó?+

Productive blue water is often reached in approximately 30 to 45 minutes, although the captain may run farther depending on currents, bait and the latest fishing reports.

Are the charters suitable for families and beginners?+

Yes. The crew handles the tackle, bait and instruction. Inshore trips are especially comfortable for families, while full-day offshore trips are ideal for guests who want billfish, tuna or mahi-mahi.

What is included?+

Charters normally include the captain and mate, rods and reels, bait, tackle, ice, water, soft drinks, beer, snacks and lunch on full-day trips. Specific inclusions are confirmed with your boat.

Do I need a Costa Rica fishing license?+

Yes. Every angler needs a valid INCOPESCA license. We will explain how to purchase it before your trip.

Can we keep our catch?+

Edible species such as tuna, mahi-mahi and snapper may be kept within regulations and filleted by the crew. Marlin, sailfish and roosterfish are released.

What should I bring?+

Bring sun protection, polarized sunglasses, a hat, comfortable quick-dry clothing, nonslip footwear and a camera. Motion-sickness medication should be taken before departure if needed.
